#1 Have started to look at older LHD MH's and like the idea of the Mercedes 5 cylinder diesel engine. Does anyone have any experience or opinion on what they are like to live with? Had a Merc 609D base previously and although a little agricultural was in love with it's robust reliabilty and simplicity.

709D/1990/OM364. Sep 21, 2011. #9. Hello there, these old Type 2 Mercs weren't built for speed as you've found out! Only 86 bhp @ 2800 rpm from 3972cc. The geared top speed for the 609d is 71mph (theoretical) and that is @ 2800 rpm, which is mechanically governed, so you shouldn't exceed 71mph going downhill.

May 10, 2012 #2 Mercedes 609d or 709d ? what is the difference please? You will find that the only difference is the carrying capacity. The engines are bomb proof.
